‘Community Education for a Better Tomorrow' Update
6 Dec 2016 12:38 PM
Members of the AONTAS Community Education Network (CEN) have completed an eight week blended learning programme with An Cosán Virtual Community College (VCC). The course, entitled ‘Community Education for a Better Tomorrow’, was developed following consultation with CEN members on their training needs and covered the following subjects:
- Transformative community education
- Organisational governance in the community and voluntary sector
- Quality assurance in community education
This programme was a new departure for the CEN in that most sessions took place in six community venues across the country, allowing for virtual learning as well as face to face group work.
The first and last sessions took place in Dublin where all the groups came together to meet each other in person and share their experiences of the community education and their learning through the course. The final session took place last Thursday with participants giving presentations on aspects of quality assurance within community education. An added value of this course is that the work that the VCC and participants have done together will be the start of a process of developing a quality assurance framework for the community and voluntary sector in Ireland.
We would like to congratulate all the CEN members who participated in the course and thank for them for sharing their expertise and knowledge which will allow us to build on our strength and voice for the community sector in Ireland.
We also owe a big thanks to An Cosán VCC for developing such an innovative and unique programme and we would like to wish the best of luck to any of the participants who chose to progress to the Transformative Community Education, Level 7 special purpose award, offered by the VCC. This project was funded by the European Commission Erasmus Plus Programme and the Department of Education and Skills via SOLAS.
